FAQ – Using Lip Trainer Patakara

Q: Is Lip Trainer – Patakara device for use while sleeping?

A:  No, it is for use during the day while you are awake to increase activity of the facial and mouth muscles. This will result in the mouth remaining closed during sleep.

Q: Can it be used while the person is having orthodontic treatment?

A:  Yes.  If the orthodontic apparatus is set on the outer surface of the teeth, pull slightly on the cord of the Lip Trainer device while keeping the lips closed. Dentists are known to use oral strength training devices on patients after orthodontic treatment.

Q: There is a lot of saliva while using the device.

A:  The amount of salivation varies with people.  Salivation is good as it has a cleaning and anti-bacterial function in the oral cavity.  The amount of salivation gradually reduces over time.  Do not use the device with the head bent downwards.

Q: Will the nasolabial folds become more apparent after use?

A:  No. From initial use, it may become more apparent at first but without leaving marks.  With muscle stretching, skin tension lines will gradually reduce.

Q: Will it be more effective to extend the time for each training session?

A:  No. Extending the time of each session will only result in muscle fatigue without better results.  It is better to increase the frequency of use (i.e. more sessions per day) and this can result in positive results sooner. Note that the session before sleep is most beneficial.

Q: What do you do if using the device hurts the gums?

A:  Please pull on the cord of the device while the mouth is closed. If use of the device results in discomfort and pain (braised gum or skin etc), temporarily stop using the device to allow healing and to prevent development of chronic oral problems. Normally, the discomfort or pain will go away after a few days.

Q: Is it necessary to replace the device if it becomes discoloured after consistent use?

A:  Due to the nature of the material, various things like food, coffee, tea, lipstick etc may easily stain the device. However, if general cleaning methods are followed, discolouration of the device will not result in health issues. Feel free to continue usage.

Q: Can the device be bleached?

A:  No, do not ever clean with bleach. Rinsing and washing with fresh water is normally enough for cleaning. Use denture washing liquids for a more thorough cleaning. Please refer to the manual for further details.

Q: Can the device be used while wearing dentures?

A:  Yes. If dentures are worn normally but not worn during use of the device, the person may result in using the gums to close on the device instead of using the lips. Therefore, please wear dentures before use.

Q: What is the life span of the product?

A:  The instruction manual recommends use for 6-12 months before replacement. This is also dependent on the amount of use. It is normal to use more than one year for general purposes.

Q: Can it be used while the person is having orthodontic treatment?

A:  Yes. If the orthodontic apparatus is set on the outer surface of the teeth, pull slightly on the cord of the Lip Trainer while keeping the lips closed. Dentists are known to use oral strength training devices on patients after orthodontic treatments.

Q: When pulling on the cord, the device may be pulled out of the mouth.

A:  When muscle strength is insufficient, pulling on the cord will result in pulling the device out of the mouth. Start with the basic exercise of closing the lips on the device for 3 minutes. After that is easily achieved, proceed with exercises using the cord.

Q:  With the device in the mouth, can the lips perform open and close movements?

A:  This is not recommended. Only by continuously keeping the lips closed (for 3 to 5 minutes) will there be deep stretching of the muscles. Pay attention NOT to open and close the mouth while using the device.

Q: Can the device be used with fixed dentures?

A:  To avoid having the device colliding and dislodging the dentures, be sure to pull the cord slightly forwards, while keeping the lips closed.

Q: How should the device be maintained?

A: Clean with tap water, dry with clean tissue or cloth and keep in a dry place, ideally in the original container provided.  A denture cleaning solution can also be used for more thorough cleaning. Do not use bleach, hot water or detergents.

Q: What is your return, replacement and refund policy?

A: We will provide a replacement or refund if the item is not functional on arrival.  We will offer refund if we cannot offer you replacement within a reasonable time frame.
